New Zealand Affiliate for Food Protection (NZAFP)

For the past few years members of the NZMS Food, water and public health SIG have automatically also been members of the NZAFP. Members of the Food Safety SIG of the NZIFST are also members. The NZAFP is an affiliate of the International Association for Food Protection (IAFP) which, while it is based in North America, has true international reach.

The IAFP, founded in 1911, is a non-profit association of food safety professionals. Comprised of a diverse membership of over 3,000 members from 50 nations, the Association is dedicated to the education and service of its members, as well as industry personnel.

IAFP MISSION STATEMENT:
"To provide food safety professionals
worldwide with a forum to exchange
information on protecting the food supply"

Through the Association, members are able to keep informed of the latest scientific, technical, and practical developments in food safety and sanitation. The Association provides its members with an information network through its two scientific journals, Food Protection Trends and Journal of Food Protection® (very reasonably priced for the electronic version), its educational Annual Meeting, and interaction with other food safety professionals.

Benefits of being an affiliate of IAFP include:

  • Publication of affiliate activities and accomplishments in an Affiliate quarterly newsletter
  • Affiliate training session at Annual Meeting
  • Participation and representation on the International Association Affiliate Council and Executive Board
  • Hosting Annual Meetings

As an Affiliate of the IAFP, we have access to resources for meetings. They include:

  • Executive Board Member Speaker Program (which we are utilising to bring Dr Lee-Ann Jaykus to this year's meeting)
  • Announcing your Meeting in Food Protection Trends (FPT)
  • Announcing your officer changes in FPT. Affiliate officers are printed bi-annually in FPT.
